Past Winners

The winners: where are they now? In the six years since we kicked off the first competition, we’ve seen some great acts pass through the Road to V doors. And it’s not a bands-only affair either. We’re always on the lookout for original talent, whatever type of music you’re into.

2008

Matt Trakker

Since winning Road to V last year, Matt Trakker have had a reshuffle, with five members being reduced to three. After flirting with the idea of signing to Atlantic Records soon after their V Festival performance (only their third ever gig) the band decided that a major label might not be the way to go at such an early stage. Still, 2009 promises to be a big year for them. With industry interest and plans for a debut single, this year’s V Festival will see Matt Trakker take to the stage yet again, to pick up where they left off last time.

2008

The Rebs

Forming at the end of 2006, the last couple of years have been busy for The Rebs. They’ve supported well-known acts like The Enemy, Five O'Clock Heroes and The Ordinary Boys, and of course, opened V Festival ‘08. Since Road to V, the band have recorded at legendary Olympic Studios in London, and taken a break from gigging to concentrate on writing and recording their debut album.

2007

Rosalita

A management deal, a publishing deal… not long after performing at Road to V, Rosalita were signed by Taste Media – the label who brought us Muse – and have been going from strength to strength ever since. After spending much of 2008 on the road, they’re back in the studio.

2007

The Brightlights

Since winning Road to V in 2007, The Brightlights have hit the indie chart top ten and last year reached the number 5 slot with their single ‘3’. Two members left late last year and have now been replaced. The band is now going strong, playing their first gig together last month.

2006

Bombay Bicycle Club

Following Road to V the band released two EPs and topped the indie charts. Having taken time off to finish school, they're returning this year with their debut album ‘I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose’ to be released on Island records. The album was produced by Jim Abbiss (of Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian fame).

2006

Keith

Keith are now in the midst of recording the follow up to their debut album 'Vice & Virtue'. The boys have recently shared stages with scene-mates The Courteeners, who frequently tip Keith as their favourite Manchester band.

2005

The Young Knives

Probably the best known of the Road to V winners. Last year, they joined the V Festival line-up again, this time without any help from us. The trio are set to announce new tour dates any time now.

2004

10,000 Things

The band as we knew it may be no more, but the frontman has done pretty well for himself. Sam Riley went on to play Ian Curtis in Control, before donning a trenchcoat for Burberry’s talked-about ad campaign.
