The final 6: Bleech

We've been catching up with our final six Road to V finalists, finding out what they've been up to since the semi-final gigs in Brighton and how they got on at their development days, where they received advice from Just Jack and The Charlatans, had their picture taken and were interviewed by the NME.

Here's Katherine from Bleech:

“The semi-final gig was really good. Apart from Jennifer’s guitar breaking for the first two songs – that was a bit annoying. But it went really well in the end, we pulled it all together. But I think the audience like things like that happening, they like to see how you cope with it. Luckily we stayed cool!

“Straight after we’d played we spoke to Tim Burgess and he gave us some feedback. He said he really enjoyed it and particularly liked our guitar sound – maybe that means he didn’t notice that it broke! But it was really cool to get feedback from him. I hope we didn’t annoy the guys filming us because we had a really good chat, rather than just asking questions! We had a good conversation.

“We hung out at the hotel for a while afterwards then went and got fish and chips and all fell asleep the minute we got back in the van! It was a very long day.

“So much happened at our development day. We started off with an NME Radio interview. We’re normally really rubbish at interviews, but this was fun. I don’t know who speaks the most in our band. I probably laugh the most, Jen mumbles the most and Matt just says the most random things. Together it’s a great combination.

“And we had free food – which was really good. It was all from prêt as well! Then after we’d had another chat with The Charlatans we had to watch our performance back which was horrendous. You never really want to hear yourself and when everyone’s watching you watching yourself… we can never hear it how other people hear it. We just hear the rubbish! Please vote for Bleech – we’re rubbish! Ha ha.

“The photoshoot was really cool, though I did look a bit like Cruella de Ville! But it was fun and they told us what to do, giving us instruction. They told Jennifer to try and look like Elvis Presley and do some kind of growl, but it didn’t really work.

“Since then we’ve been recording in Rak, which is a really cool studio. We haven’t finished yet because it took about two days just tuning Matt’s drums! But it’s been a great experience. And we’re playing at the Purple Turtle in Camden soon, and the National Theatre on July 7. So do come down and see us!”
